Beethova Obas (born October 1, 1964, in Port-au-Prince, Haiti) is a Haitian singer, guitarist, and composer known for blending traditional Haitian rhythms with jazz, bossa nova, and folk influences. His music is celebrated for its poetic lyrics, smooth voice, and socially conscious themes.
Early Life
- Beethova was born into an artistic family. His father, Charles Obas, was a well-known painter, while his mother had a love for Haitian folk music.
- In 1969, tragedy struck when his father, who opposed the Duvalier dictatorship, was arrested and never returned home. This event deeply marked Beethova’s life and shaped his socially conscious artistry.
- Despite hardships, he grew up surrounded by music and culture, teaching himself guitar and developing a passion for composition.
Musical Career
